SPOROBULUS AIROIDES
ALKILI SACATON
Native to many parts of Western US, found in extreme conditions from seacoast and saline flats to desert shrub communities, also often found in grasslands or on gravelly, alkaline slopes. Versatile, under-used bunch grass that creates soft mounds to 2-3’ tall of arching, gray-green leaves. From late spring to fall the mounds are topped with airy panicles of tiny, pinkish-maroon seed heads. Exceptionally durable grass that tolerates sun to part shade, drought conditions to seasonal flooding, most any soil. Deep-rooting grass that provides surface erosion control, also used in restoration projects and water-wise gardens. Hardy to -20°.
